I've really struggled in the last few months, what with work and stuff. Finding the time has been my biggest issue, but once things started moving again, it moved fast! So coming VERY soon, to a store near you. I'll update the book page with buy links once I've got them all.

Here's the blurb:

Sarah has been struggling to maintain her ranch on her own since the death of her husband. Despite her fierce determination, she's overwhelmed with the daily tasks necessary to keep the ranch running smoothly. Enter Casey Reed, a tall and rugged cowboy with a mysterious past. At first, Sarah is wary of him, but as they work side by side, a deep friendship develops. Sarah finds solace in opening up to Casey about her struggles, and he proves to be a loyal companion.

Casey himself is guarded, but as he spends more time with Sarah, he begins to let his guard down. They share stories of their pasts and their dreams for the future. As they grow closer, they begin to feel something more than friendship.

However, running a ranch is no easy feat. While Casey deals with the demons from his past, Sarah struggles to keep her ranch out of the hands of a ruthless landowner. Just when they think they're finally clear of all their obstacles, a lawman from Texas shows up looking for Casey. Will their love be torn apart or will they find a way to keep it together once and for all?
Ellie Lynnhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14917004504011478240noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8886983066452792346.post-86819803770691639102023-07-22T17:08:00.002-07:002023-07-22T17:09:51.914-07:00New Work In Progress!
So, you probably might have noticed, but I haven't written anything new in a while. Quite a while. It's been tough, what with the pandemic going on, etc. I'm a nurse in my other life so I got really burned out. Sitting in front of a computer was the last thing I wanted to do when I got home.

Now that COVID is essentially behind us (yes, I know it's never going to be completely gone, but let me have my delusion), I've had a chance to take care of ME for a change. I'm eating better, getting more sleep, and getting a wee bit more exercise too! This summer, I'm spending more time in the garden, and playing with my pooches. And then it happened.

In the last few weeks, my eyes have been drawn to some of my old research books, notes and photos. That itch, that spark that had faded into what I thought was oblivion, has reignited.

I am excited to report that I've written 8 chapters of my next historical western romance and I'm still going strong! It's set in Wyoming, and tentatively called A Cowboy's Promise. I even have artwork ready to go. I'm really very pleased and excited.

If all goes well, I'll have it finished in the next month, and ready for release by fall.

I'll keep you posted!

Until next time,

Ellie
Ellie Lynnhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14917004504011478240noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8886983066452792346.post-8955663665054623372017-04-22T15:36:00.004-07:002021-09-03T09:34:15.906-07:00

Ellie Lynnhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15974238674899476309noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8886983066452792346.post-70992796951627561512017-03-18T12:33:00.001-07:002017-03-18T12:33:55.986-07:00Western Romances Rule!Since beginning work on Under A Calico Moon, which is the sequel/companion book to New Prints in Old Calico, I've really re-discovered my love of the era. Now I realize that what I'm writing is a bit more of a 'romanticized' version of reality, but heck, isn't that what I'm supposed to do? Manly men who love and protect their womanfolk with every breath in their bodies, and women who love their men just as much. And what's wrong with a handsome cowboy rushing to the rescue anyway? Not a darn thing.

The other night an old western came on, that I hadn't seen in years. Pale Rider, which stars Clint Eastwood. Granted, it's not your typical western romance, but it sure has a lot of action! I ended up staying up until 2 am to finish it, which is completely unlike me. I'm an 'in bed, lights out by 11:30' kinda gal. If I even make it to 11:30! So while I was watching the movie, an idea for another novella came to me, and I quickly plotted it out, using the beginnings of an old story I found on an old computer of mine. It's not a long story, should come in around 20k or so for word count, but I like it so far.

I'm calling it Wyoming Wild. I was hoping to have it finished by March 19, because I've got a great Bookbub promotion started that day for New Prints in Old Calico, but unfortunately, it's very doubtful it will be ready on time. It won't be long though. I haven't written the tagline or blurb yet, but it's going to sound something like: "After Cora's husband abandons her and their infant child in the wilds of Wyoming, she wonders if she'll be able to cope, much less ever find love again."

That's all I have so far, and I kind of like it. I think I might keep it.
This is one of my all time favorite contemporaries to write. As a paranormal investigator myself, I was able to incorporate some of the things I've seen and heard from my own experiences. I can honestly say I've never seen a man made from sand, but dang, would that ever be cool if I did! Carlie is fun and full of surprises, and Michael may be a bit nerdy, but he knows what he wants: Carlie in his bed. Watching these two come together (no pun intended!) was an experience in itself.

I'm almost finished the first draft of Hide 'n Spook, which means onto the second draft. Seriously, can you imagine the shenanigans that could (and do) go on in a small town called Climax? Oooo, could be some great fun! Stay tuned, I'm going to ask for help naming the series soon!
No, I didn't have surgery to change anything about me, but if you've noticed, I've made a decision to change my pen name going forward. A huge decision, since I've been Jennifer Lynn for the last 25 years of my writing career.

Lately, I've had numerous people email me, and it's not me they're looking for. You see, there's a couple other Jennifer Lynn's who've started publishing as well, and one of them publishes a genre that I'm not entirely comfortable with. Now I'm not disparaging that author's chosen genre, but it's definitely not something I write. I've tried to have my books 'unlinked' from hers but Amazon's (et al) automated search will not recognize the difference in authors. Anyone looking for my work has to wade through pages and pages of these other Jennifer Lynn's. And I doubt this is going to change anytime soon, if ever at all.

So while talking to a friend of mine, who happens to be an author as well, we both agreed that perhaps it was time. When my next work comes out, which is my Carlie Barnes story (tentatively called Hide 'n Spook) it'll be under my brand new me.

And since my brand new me has moved to a wonderful little town called Climax (isn't that a fantastic place for a romance writer to be from?), what better time than to start anew?

'Til next time,
I am pleased to introduce Shiela Stewart, who writes paranormal romance.
for having me and Gabriella here today. Tempting the Darkness is the fifth book I my Darkness
series. It’s is about one man's endless struggle to save the woman he loves who
is dying from cancer. Despite being a vampire, Cooper Hawthorn fell in love
with a human. He spent years keeping her a secret from his friends, and when
she discovers she is dying from cancer he promises her he will find a cure.
Putting her in a cryogenic chamber, he spends years trying to find a cure. With
love blooming all around him, his heart longs for his lovely Gabriella.
Desperate to have her back in his life, he decides to turn her into a vampire.
Gabriella, however is not happy with his decision.

Is this lovely lady here with you from that book? By the way, who exactly is
with us tonight?

<span style="color: #632035; font-family: "Helvetica",sans-serif; font-size: 10.0pt; mso-fareast-font-family: "Times New Roman";">Yes she is.

So Gabriella, can you tell us a little bit about yourself?

I’m thirty one years old…Or I was when my love put me to sleep in cryogenics.
I’m an only child. My parents were in their fifties when I was born and
unfortunately they passed when I was nearly twenty. I have always had an
affinity for flowers so I opened up a floral shop and learned all I can about
every breed. That was where I met my love, Cooper.

So you were asleep for many years. How was it being woken up in an entirely
new era?

Unsettling. There are still familiarities from before my sleep, but when I was
alive, vampires were not as known as they are now. It is the darkness and the
dismal state of the city that is the most jarring. There is no beauty, just
hardness and death.

Not only were you in a new time, but now you are a vampire. How is that
going so far?

It's difficult to say the least. Blood repulses me, yet my body longs for it,
craves it. Biting through flesh came instinctually though I prefer not to do it
again. All of my senses are enhanced, which at times can be very annoying. With
all of the people living under one roof, it can get quite loud at times. It is
pleasant to be able to see in the dark, and my sense of smell is very enhanced
which I love because I have always been delighted by smells of flowers and
perfumes.

<span style="color: #632035; font-family: "Helvetica",sans-serif; font-size: 10.0pt; mso-fareast-font-family: "Times New Roman";">
If you could go back and change one thing, what would it be?

I would like to change my reunion with my husband. Being awoken from twenty
years of sleep to find he has betrayed me and turned me into a vampire hurt. I
wish he had woken me and discussed what he was about to do and what it all
entailed. However awful the reunion, I can’t be angry with him any longer. We
will be together for an eternity or more and that is all I’ve ever wanted.

Raised on a rural farm in Saskatchewan, Canada, Shiela Stewart relied on her
vivid imagination to fill her days. Never did she realize that her need to tell
a story would someday lead to becoming a published author.

In the fall of two thousand and six, Shiela published her very first book and
she hasn’t stopped since.

When not writing, Shiela spends time with the love of her life and biggest
supporter, William. She enjoys doting on her children and granddaughter. She
has a strong affection for animals which is evident in the five cats, one dog,
plenty of fish and one turtle she owns.

Some of her other passions are home décor, crocheting and knitting.

Gabriella fought to open her eyes and couldn’t understand why they
felt as if they were laden with lead. Struggling, she pushed them open and
blearily tried to look around. It was all so fuzzy, as if something were
coating her eyes, blurring them. She scrubbed her fists over them and blinked
away the fog.

Where was she?

Her body felt…odd. Heavy, different. Energized.

She took a good look around. It was a bedroom. She was in a bedroom.

Cooper’s bedroom.

How had she gotten here? Her mind seemed as foggy as her eyes. Her
mouth was as dry as the desert. She pushed the blankets aside, swinging her
legs over the side of the bed. They were bare. Well, of course they are, you were in bed. She caught sight of the
rest of her body and gasped. She was completely naked.

Then it all came barreling back into her mind.

Cooper had woken her. He’d bathed her. He’d made love to her.

He’d made her a vampire.

Her hand flew up to her neck and she felt the distinct impression of
two marks just below her ear. He’d bitten her. While he’d poured himself into
her, he had bitten her, drank in her blood, and made her like him.

“It’s the only way.”

She bolted out of the bed and her legs gave way, nearly sending her
tumbling to the floor. Plopping back down onto the bed, she took a few deep
breaths, then slowly got to her feet. Though they wobbled, her legs managed to
carry her as she walked to the mirror over the dresser. The room was utterly
dark yet she saw with perfect clarity. Her eyes were a translucent blue green
with a tint of yellow. Opening her mouth, she saw the fangs penetrating from
her gums

She gasped, backing up, and bumped into the bed.

Whirling around, her heart racing, she felt panicked.

She needed to get out of here.

In a desperate search, she ran about the room looking for her
clothing. It was nowhere to be found. How was that possible? Spotting a robe
hanging on the back of the door, she yanked it down and quickly slipped into
it. It hung off her like a droopy sack of silk. She did her best to belt it up
to cover her nudity.

He’d made love to her, then made her a vampire.

Why would he do that?

Carefully, she opened the bedroom door, peering through the crack. She
saw no one and heard nothing. Throwing the door open, she bolted. She didn’t
know where she was going, or what she was going to do, she just knew she had to
run.

She screamed and spun around to see Cooper standing before her. Her
heart raced with both fear and love, and in the conflict of emotions, she was
momentarily frozen.

“Are you all right, my sweet?”

“Don’t touch me,” she blurted out in a voice much too frail to be hers.
Spinning around, she searched for an exit.

“You should be resting.”

“Leave me alone.” Seeing an escape, she bolted for the door, throwing
it open as she ran. Her bare feet slapped on the paved steps leading down to a
small cobblestone path. Everything was so dark. It felt so…unnatural.

“Gabriella, please, come back inside.”

His voice startled her and she ran a little faster. “No, leave me
alone. Leave me alone,” she screamed as she ran.

“Gabriella, stop.”

She jumped when he appeared in front of her, and screamed even louder.

“My stars, love. What has gotten into you?”

“Don’t touch me. You turned me into a vampire. Just leave me alone.”
Spinning around, she darted off, not knowing where she was or where she was
headed.

“Gabriella. Please.”

Her blood curdling scream echoed in the still air as he grabbed her
arm and stopped her. “Leave me alone. Please, please, just let me be.”

“What is going on?”

Her head twisted to the male voice behind her and she saw a man with
dark hair and beautiful, glowing blue eyes. “Help me. Please, help me. Save
me.” Jerking her arm free, she raced to the gentleman. She didn’t know who he
was, but she hoped he would help her. “Please, don’t let him near me.”

Years and years later, it's still a thrill for me.

Recently, I've made the decision to join the ranks of many other authors who are self publishing, and so I'm looking closely at the cover art of books I've gotten rights back to. I'm not changing many of them, but I do think Harper's Treasure needed an update before sending it back out into the world. Here's the new and improved (?) cover. What do you think? I really like it.

I've also got a paperback of Harper's Treasure ready, which will show up on Amazon in the next couple of days. Signed, Sealed and Delivered also has a paperback version too. Creating those was loads of fun, and being able to be in control of all aspects was... interesting. I've heard that I'm a control freak--don't believe a word of it!

So that's the latest update. If you're following me on Wattpad, you'll be able to see the first three chapters of Hide 'n Spook, which is my Carlie Barnes story. I am half finished it now, and things are heating up between Carlie and Michael-BloodyDenton. I do have a temporary cover created for that book. Not sure if I'll stick with it, so opinions are always welcome.

If I don't get back before Christmas, I hope the holidays are good for everyone. Merry Christmas!

I'm more than half way through my Carlie Barnes story, which I've retitled to Hide and Spook. I'm posting chapters as I write, so drop over and let me know what you think. I likely won't post the last couple, but then again, who knows?
So find me here: https://www.wattpad.com/user/Jennielynn007 and let me know what you think. I did also post the first three chapters of New Prints in Old Calico, which is probably my all time favorite story ever.

Oh speaking of New Prints, I'm started working on the sequel! Okay, not exactly a sequel, more of a companion story. You see, I've had lots of people ask me about Lil. Doesn't she deserve a happily ever after? And what about poor Chet Bowman, the rancher whose brother was hung by the dastardly Austen Riley? If anyone deserves some happiness, surely it's him. I think they'll make a lovely couple, don't you? And then there's that nasty Austen dude. If you thought you'd seen the last of him at the end of New Prints, think again. He's going to show up in all his villainous glory in the next one. If we can't send him to jail, we'll find some other way to torture him.

And that, dear readers, is the latest for now.

Happy reading!

New Prints in Old Calico is doing very well these days. There is an electronic version (Kindle/Kobo/Apple, etc) and an audio book , and now there is a paperback version! It's all very exciting.

I haven't been to a reader event in such a long time, so I was really excited about going to When Words Collide event in Calgary AB in August. I was at the publisher's table in the vending room on the Saturday, and was happily signing copies of New Prints in Old Calico. Doing it all over again September 20, at the Word on the Street festival in Lethbridge, AB. Again, come on by and I'll sign copies for you!

I'm working on a couple of new projects that have got my attention right now. First, I'm back to investigating shadows and ghosts with Carlie Barnes, my intrepid paranormal investigator in another rom com adventure! I've also been sweet talked into writing an as of yet unnamed sequel to New Prints in Old Calico. This time it will be Chet Bowman's story, with his new love interest, Lil the saloon barkeep that befriended Amy. Chet is the rancher whose brother was hung for a crime he didn't commit by then marshal Austen Riley, so he's a little broken and needing to find both revenge and solace. I'm in the plotting and scheming stages right now, figuring out how I can torture this poor man a little more before allowing his aching heart to heal.

I'll post updates on both those projects as time goes forward. One of my author friends is daring me to get at least one of them done by year end! Yikes!

Eh, November is coming. Maybe I'll give Nanowrimo a whirl this year.Ellie Lynnhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14917004504011478240noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8886983066452792346.post-16375099448514494772014-11-03T09:23:00.000-08:002014-11-03T09:23:47.219-08:00

I am excited to share the newest news (ummm, that's redundant, right?). New Prints In Old Calico is a reprint of book I had at Wings Press years and years ago. I still love this story, so I spiffed it up, had it re-edited and then Trisha FitzGerald made me the bestest cover for it. It comes out May 5, and I know you'll love it. It's a slightly different type of book from what I've been writing lately, time travel versus romantic comedy, but there are enough light moments in it that you'll like it. My editor says I have a flare for western romances, so I'm waiting to see what y'all think too. Maybe I need to write more of these.

I am pleased to report that I have completed the first chapter (and 1600 words) of my current work in progress. So yep, I'm writing. Well, not right now. Right now I'm blogging. Which is a form of writing, so hey, guess what? I'm writing!

And 'cause I've got some actually started, I can share a little bit about my story. Paranormal PI.

Carlie Barnes works hard at paranormal debunking. She’s
learned that most of the ‘ghosts’ she’s encountered can be explained away by the
real world. But sometimes there are spirits out there and it’s the living that
cause the most trouble. Like the guy in the condo upstairs, who’d rather walk
on glass than admit she might be right. She’d like to cross him off her list as
just another uptight yuppie, but she can’t. He’s hired her to investigate an
old federal bunker. Try as she might, she simply can’t ignore his sexy blue
eyes that threaten to send her libido into a tailspin and her panties into a
bunch.

Michael Denton is a scientist. He believes in what he can
see, touch, and feel. And he doesn’t want to feel Carlie Barnes. As far as he’s
concerned, she’s a con artist who preys on people's fears and bilks them out of their hard earned money
to satisfy those fears. So why does she makes his pulse race and
his palms sweat by just being in the same room?

But science dictates that opposites attract, and when they
do, fighting the inevitable is just as difficult as believing in ghosts and hotter than a beaker above a Bunsen burner.

Whatcha think? Am I on to something? Or just satisfying my inner geek?

Nope, this isn't an intro to a 12 step program. It isn't even a confession. More like... a compulsion that overtakes me now and again, and then I drag all my readers into it with me.

It's been a little while since I've had a new release, but I'm working on something that will be really great once it's done. I'm really excited and can't wait to share some excerpts with you, but it's a little too soon right now.

But I will. I promise.
